Low-cost input-output devices

The Computer Monitoring Systems Department (Donetsk National Technical University) developed stationary system for environmental and atmospheric monitoring. And Department developed the connection of laboratory instruments to a PC. Most of inexpensive gas analyzers, chromatographs, atmospheric sensors and other measuring equipment are equipped with analog outputs. However, ADCs with computer interfaces are expensive. Therefore, the Department has developed low-cost input-output devices that may be of interest to any organizations operating with monitoring and control. RS-232 oscilloscope 1 channel, the frequency of digitization - 14.4 kHz.  Digitalcity  - 8 bits. Measurement range: 0 .. + 5V. The driver is a self-propagating distributive with the NI LabVIEW virtual machine. The software contains the following functions: 1) RS-232 port setup; 2) waveform display; 5) scrolling and increasing graphics; 3) software synchronization; 4) manual software calibration

The thermostat in the boiler room

The complex performs automatic control of the boiler houses network  with the ability to monitor and adjust the algorithm through the global network. Consists from hardware and software parts. Includes a thermostat in the boiler room and a manager. Thermostat in the boiler room Hardware: The controller is a PC / 104 processor board (2xRS232, LPT, IDE, Ethernet, VGA, keyboard, mouse). ROM - IDE M-Systems 256 Mb flash disk. Sensors - case external temperature sensor (-40:+30°С); contact feed sensor (-5:+100°С), contact sensor of return water (-5:+100°С); Cabinet temperature sensor in the room (-5:+10°C). All sensors are built on thermistors. Analog input - self-made device (4 analog inputs 8kHz -> RS232, galvanic isolation). Discrete output - self-made device (Parallel port -> 8 relays); Power supply, housing, a set of connecting wires. Optionally - a CDMA modem with a directional antenna, a radio modem, a GSM modem, a wired telephone modem. Software : Windows NT 4.0

Exhibition EIA 2008 in Kiev. Our performance

AviaOK International, a system integrator of National Instruments (NI), a leading manufacturer of measurement and testing equipment and world software, invited Anton Kharitonov (Assistant of the Computer Monitoring Systems Department) and Rostislav Varzar (student) to take part in the exhibition "EIA: Electronics and Industrial Automation 2008".  Anton Kharitonov and Rostislav Varzar presented the laboratory based NI ELVIS with mock-ups of laboratory measuring instruments: oscilloscopes and complex for measuring the concentration of salts dissolved in water, developed during the preparation for the course “Methods, systems and tools for computer environmental monitoring”. The exhibition was held in Kiev, from 15 to 18 April 2008 at the exhibition center "KyivExpoPlaza". Booklets 1 , 2 , 3 (in Russian) were presented.  Great thanks to Viacheslav Dolgikh and Rostislav Varzar.

P.S. There is the first article in my blog. Historically in Russian.
